Now well rested and after a healthy hotel breakfast, our Boston pilgrims begin the day by traveling around to see the sites. |
Most groups decided to take in the "Dom" before the city became full. Some parishes even decided to take the stairs up to the tower! |
As you can see, pilgrims began arriving from all over the world wearing their shirts, hats, and waving their flags. The morning paper reported that 200,000 had arrived the day before and expected another 300,000 to arrive today! |
|
A famous artist (like Boston's own "Sidewalk Sam") often paints outside the Cathedral. This was his contribution to welcoming World Youth Day to Cologne. |
Boston pilgrims from St. John parish in Wellesley pause to smile for the camera... |
...Some even twice! |
|
Boston pilgrims then met at the Conti Hotel to pick up their WYD 2005 backpacks before heading out to the Opening Session at the ReinEnergie Stadium. |
St. Paul parish in Wellesley joined the OYM WYD Team for liturgy. |
Fr. Chris and Fr. Michael celebrated the Liturgy and Luke and Jimmy led the music. |
|
This liturgy was one of the highlights of the day reminding us of who we are and why we are here. Prayers were sincerely offered for all the pilgrims, their families and friends, Pope Benedict and Archbishop Sean, the Archdiocese, parishes, and all those praying for us and with us. This means YOU! |
Kristen and Bridget from St. Catherine of Siena in Norwood! |
These great faith-filled pilgrims then picked up their blue WYD backpacks and modeled them for us. They really are "pointing the way" to a hopeful future for the Roman Catholic Church! |
|
Parishes toured some of the other historical Catholic Churches and saw different religious pieces of art like this large wooden crucifix. |
These pilgrims (from Blessed Kateri in Plymouth, Immaculate Conception in Weymouth, St. Ann and St. Zephryn in Wayland and some others traveling with them form Natick and NH!) stopped by this Roman Arch which is one of the only remaining pieces to the original Roman settlement wall around the city. |
This group from St. Christine in Marshfield returns energized from representing their parish, their Archdiocese, and their country at the Koln Opening Session. They are off to process their busy day and to offer prayers together before bed. Many of them said the highlights of their day were Liturgy followed by the energy of the young people from all over the world gathered for it! |
|
PS Our teens are getting comfortable enough to try the local pastries, pretzels, and breads... |
...As well as some of the German schnitzels and worsts!!! |
